Calling all persons of the People’s Republic of Fremantle who identify as women regardless of gender.

This is a VIP (very improper persons) invitation to Weiberfastnacht.*

When: Wednesday 15th February 6-7.00 pm

Where: Kings Square Freo

BYO: cutting implements, pots & pans and wooden spoons

Bring your friends, but guys - watch out for your ties. If you wear a tie, consider yourself forewarned!

Be ready to:

Arrest the Mayor, then seize the keys to the city

Cut off the mayor’s tie

Commit lewd acts in public

Behave raucously

Overturn patriarchy and engage in rowdy antics

Kiss any man who appeals

Having cut off the Mayor of Fremantle’s tie, women symbolically take over Fremantle during the 2011 Weiberfastnacht event.

*Fremantle Carnival 2011 saw the inaugural Weiberfastnacht (‘Women’s Carnival’), inspired by the traditional event held in Cologne, Germany. On this day, women symbolically take over the City Council building, demand the keys of the city from the Mayor and cut off men’s ties with enormous shears, thus symbolically challenging the established gender hierarchy.
